I was viewing an old friend’s photos on Friendster when I noticed a button that faded in as I moused over the first photo in the gallery. I thought it was a new feature of Friendster. And when I clicked the button, a slideshow popped up! It’s a nice and cool full-screen slideshow with an auto-hide filmstrip or thumbnail strip at the bottom. I was amazed how it expanded photos and lets me easily browse and view them in high resolution. It’s fast loading, too. Again I thought this is a new cool feature of friendster. Then I noticed the logo PicLens in its auto-hide top bar. PicLens?… Wait a minute. This is not a Friendster feature! This is a Firefox add-on! I realized I was browsing with Firefox. I forgot I installed the PicLens add-on for Firefox a couple of weeks ago and somehow I forgot to try and see how it works.
PicLens is an image viewer that lets you browse through photos on a page in high resolution. PicLens can be used on Flickr, Facebook, Friendster, Picasa, and image search results from Google and Yahoo, and any page that supports Media RSS. If you’re a Firefox fan, PicLens is a must-have add-on. It’s definitely another great reason to love Firefox. For Mac users, Piclens also rocks the boat for Safari. A Firefox version for Mac is currently in development.
