Red-light district for the Internet gets green light after ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) voted in favor of the new suffix despite protest from the porn industry. The approval of .xxx, angers the adult entertainment industry as it will have to repurchase domain names.
.XXX is completely set aside for adult entertainment, so now no-one has the excuse that they ‘accidentally typed in the wrong url.’
ICANN, which oversees the Internet’s naming system, hope that .XXX will help keep minors away from porn, while the new area will give users more security as it will be heavily-regulated.
