December 25th, 2007 — Cool Web Stuff, Links of the Week
Santa turned me into one of his elves last night. But I’m not the only one who signed up for the ‘elving’. I met Yoda, Albert, and Chewicachu (long lost cousin of Chewbacca) in Santa’s not-so-secret-anymore village at the North Pole. They’re all in elf-form, too. I guess Santa needs all the help he can get. He’s gotten fatter. The famous eight reindeer were complaining.

Widgets are rich and interactive media applications that are easy to build, customize and add to a blog or site. Widgets are usually javascript powered or flash apps. Widgets are so popular nowadays. So popular that web advertising companies turned them into advertising delivery systems or simply called ‘advertising widgets’. Widgets may be the next revolution in online advertising. Even Google is now offering rich media advertising via their Google Gadget Ads. But the buzz is currently loud on the newcomer WidgetBucks.
WidgetBucks is a new advertising option for bloggers and site owners. WidgetBucks offers attractive ad widgets that bloggers and web masters can add to their blogs and sites. It was launched last October 2007 by the Seattle-based Mpire. Just two months after its launch, these widgets have already gained popularity among web publishers especially among “pro” bloggers. Like Chitika eMiniMalls, a WidgetBucks widget is an interactive ad unit that flashes through different purchasing options for readers for different products. Thus helping readers to find the best deals online. Continue reading →

December 16th, 2007 — Font of the Month
Every month I will be featuring one font beginning this month. Okay. Maybe two or more. I will be featuring really cool and beautiful fonts, most of which you may have never seen before. Of course you can download these fonts, and install them on your pc or mac. Once installed, you can start using them with your favorite image editor. Create titles or logos, or use them in your documents.
For this special month of December we have five lovely fonts. These fonts are great for creating personalized Christmas greeting cards; and for your blog’s logo, headings or backgrounds if you want to create a Christmas atmosphere on your pages.

If it’s in a .Zip file, upzip it first.
Then follow carefully these extremely difficult steps:
Right-click on the font file (.ttf, .otf, .fon), then click Install.
Put the font file (.ttf, .otf, .fon) into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts.
Put the font file (.ttf, .otf) into /Library/Fonts.
That’s it!

YouTube Swarm?

Screenshot of the recommended videos based on the Golden Compass teaser
Have you ever seen this YouTube feature before?
No? Me, too. I’ve never seen it either. I haven’t been on YouTube for a while. Or maybe because I barely use the full screen mode. But it looks familiar, though. I mean, it looks similar to Swarm — Digg’s cool visualization tool lets you see new stories being submitted -in real-time, and shows you related contents. Only this YouTube visualization seems to be a poor imitation of Swarm. I thought it’s supposed to recommend relevant videos but it doesn’t show you videos which are related to the video you are viewing. I can’t see its uses other than visualizing random videos. And the video balloons are like unstable atomic particles that seems to repel each other forever. Maybe it is still on beta phase or an experiment. I’m sure Google has an explanation for this half-baked tool or a grin that says just wait and see. Though inefficient as it is, I must say this visualizer is an interesting and neat experiment. Visualization will be the next big thing on the internet. What’s cooking, Google?
Tell me what you think about this tool.

How many email accounts do you own?… How would you like to access multiple email accounts in just one place?… Most of us own more than one email account and it is a hassle to keep track of all of them.

Windows Live Mail is one of the free Windows Live services from Microsoft. It is an email program that you install on your PC. It’s like Windows Mail in your Windows Vista, Outlook Express on Windows XP, and Mozilla’s Thunderbird. Only much better. Window Live Mail allows you to access multiple email accounts from your favorite web-based email services. You can send and receive emails without having to open many windows on your web browser to log in to different accounts. Other cool features include integration with other Windows Live services such as Windows Live Spaces (it allows you to post a new blog entry on your Windows Live Space) and Windows Live Messenger (it allows you to start a conversation right from your inbox). It even gets the latest information from your favorite websites and blogs delivered right to your inbox with its built-in RSS feed reader. Continue reading →
